EIVA DII Central Regular Season and Conference Champions
2010

WELCOME FROM COACH DANIEL DAVIDSON

Gentlemen,

Allow me to be one of many to welcome you (or welcome you back) to GW.

Firstly, the rec sessions (open to the whole school, run very informally and not officially a part of the men's team) are off and running, happening every Tues and Thurs from 3pm - 4:30pm (or later) at The Health and Wellness Center.  If you are not receiving emails about this from our faculty advisor, you can sign yourself up at http://gwvolleyball.com/ .

Secondly and more importantly, OUR TEAM:  As many of you know, we are a competitive squad that practices 2-3 times a week, engages in conditioning sessions and tape watching, and, occasionally, off-court social activities with our women's club team and the varsity team.  As the year deepens, we will compete in intercollegiate competition against teams from around the region, and at our National tournament in April, from around the country.  More information on us can be found at www.gwmensvolleyball.com.

We believe strongly in our team, and feel that it has a lot to offer:
  • Volleyball is a great team sport, that can be played well into your years, either coed or single sex
  • Great workouts, competitive practices, team-building
  • Beating up on Georgetown, University of Maryland, Navy, and anyone else who invites us to a tour
  • Travel the East Coast playing other schools
  • Socials and events with the Women's Club Team and Women's Varsity Team
We will be having tryouts, likely in 2-3 weeks.  In the meantime, we will be hosting a number of "pre-tryout" sessions whereby you can come out, meet other players, shake off some of the dust, and see if this team is for you.  No one is being evaluated, attendance is not being taken, and the atmosphere is relaxed and geared to people who are just trying to get into it.  If you are even remotely considering our team, I highly encourage you to come out.

A note: the majority of excellent men's collegiate club volleyball players had never touched a volleyball prior to coming to college.  It is the norm rather than the exception that many of us start on the team with little to no experience.  Our curriculum is designed to get you up to speed, so as long as you possess drive, work ethic, and a genuine interest in doing what we do, please give us a try.  Do not be alarmed by the high number of emails on this list - not only are we looking to field 2 teams this year, but many of the new names will decide not to show.

There is a lot more to share with you - our philosophy, our time commitment, uniforms/equipment, our competition schedule, fundraisers, etc - and all will be revealed in due time.  Until then, I hope to see as many of you as possible out at one of our pre-tryout sessions!

Regards,

Daniel Davidson
